Lousy upkeep

I really haven't been doing to great getting job of keeping this blog updated. It seems like there's always something better to do. :-) Oh well. It also seems like every time I do write something it's about a wedding as I'll be in the middle of helping plan one. Which, of course, is the case again. Another friends. My sisters is done, went well, and was a lovely event. Fortunately there was a very good break in between weddings. Not that it's mandatory to get a breather between them, but it does help one refocus and not get totally consumed with them, forgetting everything else. Something I can too easily do.

Changing topics:
It always seemed a bit lazy to post song lyrics or poems on my blog, but I've often found that what others have already written expresses my feelings or thoughts even more completely (or at least more eloquently) than I could. So sometimes it just seems fitting to put up a song that has really spoken to me recently if, for nothing else, I can come back to it and either put closer on that season of my life, remember that peak, or......
That said, I was listening to this song recently while thinking about heaven, death, and what entering heaven would actually be like, and I found it oddly comforting and hopeful. Not odd that it should be comforting, but odd in the amount that it helped put me at peace.

New Land
On a hillside in the warm sun
Granite shining like ice
And the water sparkling, rushing
Through the earth black as night
Where the skylark sings above me
And the sheep graze at ease
In the silence, this new land
Summons each, all, and me

I had not seen, I could not know
What this new land would be
I had heard a piece of Heaven
Was waiting for me
From the barren to the verdant
From the crag to the dale
Once I've stepped out in faith
Then there’s no turning away

I'll fly, fly, headlong and free
Fly, fly, headlong and free
Why grieve for the pains that have been?
For the new land is calling to me
For the new land is calling to me

Every autumn has its winter
Every winter its spring
Ages pass and every dying
Means a new life begins
In the passing from the old land
There is sorrow and fear
But the night at its darkest
Means the dawning is near

I'll fly, fly, headlong and free
Fly, fly, headlong and free
Why grieve for the pains that have been?
For the new land is calling to me
For the new land is calling to me

Way too long.........

Yeah, it's been way too long since I've posted anything. How fitting though, that the last post was about weddings since we're now one month away from my sisters' wedding!!!! Wowsers. I thought I knew a lot about weddings and I knew that they're a lot more stressful when they're happening to you or someone in your family. But you never truly know how hard, difficult, or stressful something really is until you're hit with it. Or so is the case with me. Yet again. Yes, it's amazing. It's incredibly fun. And it will be worth it...in the long run. All good things come with a lot of hard work. This is no exception. That's what helps keep me going. This is an once in a lifetime event that we'll look back on with much fondness for years to come. She's getting married. It's huge. But it's going to be so worth it. We're in crunch time; blood pressures are rising and calenders are looking hectic. I've needed lots of long, quiet walks and coffee shop escapes. But I just need to keep my sanity for about one more month and then we can remember this event with joy. Well, it might take a bit longer before we can look on it with much joy, but we will. One of these days. We'll get there.

:-)

It's fun.

Aughhhh, weddings!

The most awaited, anticipated, magical day in a woman's life: HER WEDDING DAY! That amazing, commercialized, complicated, pressure-filled day! Every detail can be hand selected, personalized, and perfected by the bride! Every detail "must" be selected, personalized, and perfected by the bride!!!! Eeeek! I feel for any woman currently undertaking the colossal feat of planning a wedding! Preparation for marriage is stressful enough, then add to that the responsibility of planning the ceremony, reception, cake, food, dress, wedding party, wedding party's attire, invitations, flowers, decorations, guests, travel, rings, etc. :-P It's a wonder nervous breakdowns aren't more commonplace! Needless to say, I enjoy the occasional simple wedding.

All that said, I actually adore weddings. Like a lot of other woman, I've been "planning" my own wedding since I was a little girl. Imagining how perfect and beautiful it will be. Which friends will be my bridesmaids, etc. And as an amature wedding coordinator, I vicariously enjoy several weddings a year! Okay, it's not for completely selfish reasons that I'm a coordinator. I just enjoy helping others organize and plan (thus hopefully relieving some of the pressure) their big day. I just find it annoying that weddings have become (or always have been) so commercialized! Wedding retailers thrive off the multitudes of new, mostly first-time, starry eyed brides! It's criminal! All the worry and stress brought on by these (or attempted avoidance of) scams, fabrications, and agreement terms that a Harvard graduate couldn't even make out, rob these poor ladies of their joy. The most important day in her life becomes the biggest undertaking of her life.

Urgh. I suppose I should end my venting and go back to measuring for aisle runners and searching for boutinear ideas. Ah well. I am very grateful that so many girls have so much fun planning and personalizing their weddings and usually things go very smoothly. For as much stress as weddings incur, they are most often worth all the effort and are a very joyous occasion. My blog will just have to carry the weight of my frustrations so I can move on to more important things.

(So, are you sorry you actually read through that post?)

Coolness Test

As far as I am personally concerned this test is 100% accurate!

This test is based on how cool you were in High School -- what a crowd you ran with, etc. but it is still pretty accurate. An excellent test, you may want to take it and send it to your friends to see if they have changed. To take the test, click the link below. Good luck and I hope your friends are equally as impressed.
